There is one thing such as regular hair loss. People lose at least a hundred strands of hair on a daily basis. It’s because in the normal cycle of a person’s hair growth—which is expected to last for at least two to six years—strands of hair fall out regularly and the scalp will grow new ones in about 12 weeks. Yet some people lose more than the expected number of stands in a day. If you notice you’re losing way more than that, then there might be a problem.
Experts say that many of the people who are losing their hair are not even aware of it. If truth to be to be told, many people are nonchalant about the condition of their hair and don’t notice that they are losing their crowning glory if not for the comments of people around them.

Many African-American women don’t know the real reason their hair is falling: hair relaxers.
It was only after losing a huge chunk of hair that I stopped straightening it with chemical relaxer – something I had done growing up in Nigeria since the age of six.
My bald patch was dubbed the “helicopter landing pad” by my flat mates at university for months afterwards.
I share this painful anecdote because a new documentary has re-ignited the natural versus straightened hair debate among black women. read the whole article here.

If your hair is thinning or falling, you might find it hard to handle yourself in front of others. Being confident while suffering from hair loss can be a difficult thing. But it’s not impossible, and there are many ways to achieve it.
Coping with hair loss is hard to do, the condition always seems out of your control. First thing you need to do is to determine whether your hair loss is permanent or temporary. Experts say that baldness or hair loss can be categorized into two—permanent hair loss and temporary hair loss. Permanent hair loss is hereditary, and harder to stop and reverse. Most people chose to learn to accept it, but others try to find out alternative remedies.
Other conditions where one can’t really do anything about hair loss is if they are suffering from autoimmune illnesses such as cancer, thyroid complications or lupus. People who have to undergo treatments are also in greater risks of losing hair fast.
If you’re a woman, you might be suffering temporary hair loss due to hormonal changes such as pregnancy in women or taking in birth control pills. Other factors that can cause temporary hair loss are stress, changing hairstyles often or those that are using hair products that are harmful to the hair.
Knowing the cause of your hair loss can help you cope with it easier. Sometimes you can determine this on your own, but other times you might need to visit your doctor to be certain. Once he or she had the final diagnosis, you can now ask for available treatment or options that will work for you.
But whether your hair loss is temporary or permanent, here are some tips to be more confident:
1. Maximize the potentials of make-up.
For women, make-up greatly affects their overall appearance. If you are losing your hair, try to get your confidence from your beautiful face with the aid of eyeliner, eye shadows, lipsticks, blush ons and foundations. When you flatter your features and enhance your overall appearance, the hair loss will be barely noticeable.
2. Take good care of your skin.
Since the skin is the largest organ of the body, having radiant and youthful skin will make an impact despite hair loss. To achieve good skin and fair complexion, make it a habit to use sunscreen to protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun, avoid smoking, get enough rest and proper nutrition, learn to relax to avoid too much stress, and get regular exercise.

While hair loss affects both men and women, male hair loss is more common. No men likes to loose his hair, and when it happens it usually has a terrible effects on his self-esteem. But hey, even if you’re a guy and your hair’s falling, you can still take control. Blow are the 3 most common ways to fight male hair loss:
- Surgery
Cosmetic surgery, although expensive, is used a lot to cure male hair loss. People are usually satisfied of the results. So if your wallet allows, a hair transplant or scalp reduction can be a quick and effective way to say goodbye to male hair loss. If you’re thinking about going this route, you must know that surgical hair loss cures can also be very painful and the carry the risk of infection. Also, as with other hair loss treatments, their effectiveness will vary form person to person. For more info, read my post about surgical cures here.
- Lowering DHT
One of the most common causes of male hair loss is an increase in the DHT hormone. This hormone is men’s #1 hair loss enemy. The DHT tends to make the hair follicles thinner and thinner, until they eventually wither away, causing the hair to fall. So one of the best ways to fight men hair loss is to fight this hormone in your system. Certain remedies, such as Provillus, actually lower or block the DHT in your system.
- Change of diet:
Since your diet can cause your hair to fall, another great way you can fight male hair loss is by modifying your diet. Add the right vitamins and you’ll see some improvement. The best vitamins to help fight hair loss are: Folic acid, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and the B vitamins. Folic acid helps promote cell growth, with in turn will produce healthy skin and hair regeneration. Vitamin E stimulates blood circulation. The B vitamins help produce melanin, an important element in giving your hair its color. Vitamin C helps in improving scalp circulation. The best way to incorporate these vitamins in your daily routine is by taking supplements, of course. But if you watch what you eat closely, you can balance your diet to make sure you include them.

Now in my latest post, I already spoke about the effect of diet on hair loss. But the following article gives much more details and explanation…..
American diet does not only ruin health and make people fat, the meals high in fat, animal protein, and salt lead to hair loss. Paul Pitchford in Healing with Whole Foods explains that American diet brings damage to kidneys and changes acidity of blood. Both of these factors lead to alopecia or hair loss.
The word “diet” here does not imply the meaning that we are used to: a set of meals which help lose weight; “American diet” is the way people in America eat in their everyday life. Read more here

What causes hair loss?
Too many people are losing their hair because they don’t pay much attention to the signs and symptoms of hair loss. If you suspect you might be prone to baldness ( due to a family history, for ex), the first thing you should check is the number of strands of hair you lose per day.
This is not an easy task, I admit, but at least you can notice if it’s just a few, or if your hair is falling in the hundreds. Losing about a hundred strand a day is normal. New strands will grow in about 12 weeks. But if you’re losing more than that, you should not take it lightly, and examine what might be the cause.
It’s always a good idea to consult an expert if you’re losing you hair. (S)He will be able to better help you determine the cause. The most common cause of hair loss are listed below:
1. Illnesses or other medical conditions.
This is one of the most common causes of hair loss. Some disease, for example lupus, diabetes, or those that are associated with the thyroid glands can affect the growth and the production of hair in someone’s system.
2. Certain medications
Certain medications like diet pills that contain amphetamines can cause hair loss as a side effect. This happens a lot among teenagers. As well, if you’re undergoing chemotherapy sessions to treat cancer or taking drugs for gout, depression, arthritis, and heart problems, you might experience baldness. If you’re a women and taking birth control pill, don’t be too surprised to see your hair falling.
3. Poor diet
People who have insufficient protein and iron in their bodies will most likely suffer from hair loss. These two components are very important in strengthening your hair and making it grow. Hair loss due to improper nutrition is common among women, since they usually lack iron in their bodies, and they’re more into diets which lead to eating disorders that cause under nutrition. According to the experts, when a person has poor nutrition, there is not enough supply of nutrients such as vitamin and minerals to sustain the growth of the hair.
